Rupiah Weakens, GPEI invites exporters to take advantage of momentum for volume boosters

JAKARTA - The weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar which continues is considered to open strategic opportunities for national exporters. Association of Indonesian Export Companies (GPEI) also invites business actors to take advantage of this momentum by boosting the volume of exports.

Based on the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia per Friday (9/26/2025), the rupiah was recorded at the level of Rp 16,775 per US dollar, or has weakened 3.32% since the beginning of the year.

GPEI Chairperson, Benny Soetrisno, said this condition gave a little profit (Windfall) because it makes the price of Indonesian export products more competitive in the global market.

"While export prices are more competitive, the strategy that can be done is to multiply export volumes," Benny said KONTAN.co.id, Sunday (9/28/2025).

Stay alert

However, Benny stressed that exporters must still be vigilant. According to him, the advantage of weakening exchange rates may be eroded by the potential increase in other costs in the country.

He reminded that this exchange rate fluctuation can still be tolerated as long as the changes are no more than 10 percent.

"What must be considered is the increase in the rupiah component and the cost of production and domestic services," he explained.
